On My Radar: Designer Edition

Here are a few things I've had my eye on this week:
I came across this jewelry last week via Summerwind and fell in love with the pieces! I love this necklace, which is the Blanche.
How adorable is the ruffle dress?

J. Crew Pearl Twisted Hammock Necklace
I've looked for a necklace that is less expensive but just as fabulous as this J.Crew necklace and have yet to find one. I love this classic.

Meli Melo
I adore this key fob. It reminds me of the door knocker on a mansion.

Tory Burch Sunnies
I love these sunglasses! I wish I could rock Aviators, but oversized frames look much better on my face. I love these.

What's on your designer radar this week? Have a wonderful day!

How to: Plan for the week ahead

I am by no means a morning person. I probably snooze my alarm 3-4 times every morning, until I know I absolutely have to wake up. I wish I could be productive in the morning like other people, but that's just not me. So to make up for this fact, I plan for the week ahead on Sundays. Of course, I'm super attached to my planner (see how I organize it here), but I also use lots of lists to organize other things I need to do during the week. Here's how I plan for the week ahead:

1. I write and schedule all of my blog posts for the week on Sunday.
I try to write schedule all of my blog posts for the week on Sunday, because I know I'll run out of time to write them during the week if I don't (like last week). This leaves me time to comment and read y'alls blogs during the week!
2. I make a list of what I'm wearing to my internship each day.
Like I said, I'm not a morning person, so instead of scrambling to figure out what I'm wearing to my internship on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I'll write a little post-it note and refer to that in the morning. This makes it easy to get out as quickly as possible.
3. I make a list of major assignments due each day.
I use my Lilly planner religiously, but it also helps to have a smaller list of assignments due each day. I keep my list on my desk and highlight assignments after I finish them.
4. I clean my room.
Every Sunday, I straighten up my room and do laundry, so I don't get stressed by messes during the week. If my room is messy, I have a hard time studying (I have the urge to clean), so I clean on Sundays and then make my bed every morning before class. I'm not a neak freak, but I find that clutter in my tiny room stresses me out. This makes it easier to focus on other things during the week.
How do you prepare for the week ahead? Have a terrific Thursday!

New Series: Get Healthy

I'm starting a new series on the blog called Get Healthy. This semester I've gained weight from going out too much, eating fast food late at night, and abandoning my gym habits. I really need to drop these extra pounds (plus some more) before graduation and my graduation trip, so I'm going to blog about my workouts, eating habits, and my goals for each week. I'll be posting these every Saturday starting in March, so feel free to join along! Here are some of my goals for this week:
Drink more water.
I'm terrible at drinking water. Diet Coke and coffee are my best friends, but there are so many benefits you get from drinking water, and I know it's essential to weight loss, so I'm going to try to drink at least 8 glasses per day.
Work out at least 3 days this week.
On Sunday, I walked along the river for about an hour and it was great! I'm shooting to work out 3x this week.

Do an arm workout 2 days this week.
My arms are one of my problem areas, so I'd like to tone them up.
Record all of my food in my Lose It! app.
The Lose It! app is great, and it really helps me stay on track. I have to be faithful in using it! I also want to stick to my daily limits.
What are your get healthy goals for the week? Have a wonderful day, y'all!

Review: Smoking Haute

If y'all remember this post from a few months ago, you remember my obsession with chunky scarves! So I'm sure you can understand how excited I was when Christina from Smoking Haute sent me one of her gorgeous chunky scarves!
All of Christina's scarves are handmade and made to order. She's based out of DC and names all of her gorgeous pieces after neighborhoods in DC--so fun, right? Christina sent me one of her gorgeous Adams Morgan infinity scarves in black, and I love it!
I love that it's a neutral, so I can pair it with almost anything in my wardrobe. I sported it for the first time last week for a walk, and it added tons of extra warmth.

I love that I can wear this scarf with a sweatshirt, but also with a pretty coat, like this one:
I'm also loving these scarves from Smoking Haute:
Are you as in love with chunky scarves as me? Good news--Christina is offering my readers 15% off of any purchase with the code "SOUTHERNPREP."
What's your favorite scarf from Smoking Haute? Have a great day!

In less than a week, I'll be on spring break, which will mark the middle of the semester. I can't believe that when I return to school I'll only have 8 weeks until I graduate from college. I've never been good with change, but this time in my life is all about change, which is so scary. Some of my friends already have jobs or grad school lined up, but I'm still searching for jobs. I feel like I've sent out a hundred resumes and cover letters, but no luck yet.

I really believe everything will fall into place, but it's scary thinking about "real world" stuff while still balancing my school work, internship, and sorority commitments. All of the stress has taken a toll on my health, too. I'm trying not to stress too much, but I'm a worrier by nature, so my stress/worrying is in over drive right now.

I've been trying to spend as much time as possible with my best friends and sisters, because I know in a couple of months, these are the moments I'll remember. The other night, four of us were riding to Cookout at 1 am blasting a Juicy J song and singing at the top of our lungs before we started laughing so hard we cried. And in that moment, I realized that this is what I'll miss.

I'd be lying if I told y'all that I'll stop worrying completely. I know worrying is normal, especially during this time of change. If I don't find a job until 2 months after graduation, so what? I am blessed with parents who will let me live rent-free while I job hunt, and a family I nannied for has asked to babysit for them a few days a week if I am still job hunting when I graduate. Over the past two years, I've learned that you can plan as much as you want, but life does not go according to plan. I'm going to keep job hunting, but I know God will bless me with the perfect opportunity when He's ready. And until then, I'll keep cherishing the memories I'm making with my best friends as I complete a large chapter in my life.

To gel or not to gel?

Ok y'all, today I'm talking about something I'm sure most of y'all have experience with: gel manicures. I think I've only had 3-4 gel manicures in the past 2 years, but none of my experiences have been that great. My last gel manicure was on Christmas Eve, and my nails are still recovering.
I know most nail salons say that gel manicures are ok for your nails, but my nails have always been very brittle afterwards. It's been 2 months since my last gel manicure, but I can still see the dent in my nails where the gel manicure was. I've been taking biotin to help my hair and nails, but the nails are still weak. I'm also concerned about the UV rays that are in the nail dryers, but that's a completely different story.
I love the gel because of the long-lasting polish, but if it is going to take 3 months for my nails to recover from a manicure, I'm not sure it's worth it. What's your opinion on gel nails?
Have a wonderful Monday!

A Baseball Cap Kind of Day

Sometimes, it's just a baseball hat kind of day. This week, I had 4 papers, 2 presentations, and a test between Monday and Tuesday. Sometimes if I'm pulling long nights (or I'm too lazy to wash/do my hair), I'll throw on a cute baseball hat for class or errands. I know a lot of people wear them when they're bumming out, but I think they can look cute, if done correctly. The outfit on the left is what I wore to class on Tuesday when I was exhausted from all of my school work!
A Baseball Cap Kind of Day

As long as the rest of your outfit is polished, I think you can totally rock a baseball cap and not look slobish.

Do you agree? When do you rock a baseball cap? Have a great day!

Pretty Spaces

I don't usually use my desk much, except for occasional paper writing and to store my books, office supplies, and to display pictures. I'm not sure if I'll ever have a home office, but that doesn't stop me from pinning as many pretty office spaces as I can. Here are some of my top picks:
I'm obsessed with this pink rug. And what a wonderful place to incorporate pink if you're married and can't get away with it anywhere else.

Love the idea of framing a pretty Hermes scarf.

Love the lucite chair.

I really like having pictures around me, so I love the huge ribbon board behind this desk.
Can you sense the pink pattern going on here? Check out all of my pins here. Have a great day!

I'm currently....
Reading: Angel Falls by Kristin Hannah
I just started reading Angel Falls, but I can't put it down! I've read a few of Kristin Hannah's books, and all of them are wonderful, but tear-jerkers! I'll do a full recap when I finish reading this.
Loving: Fresh roses
I picked these up post-Valentine's Day and love having them in my room! They're so bright and cheery.

Watching: Mitt
I decided to watch this documentary last week and just loved it! It follows Mitt Romney for 6 years--from 2006 until his concession speech following the 2012 election. I loved getting an "insider's view" of Romney's daily life. His family unit is so strong, and I really admire his morals. It's also so precious seeing him with his grandkids!

Playing: Blake Shelton's "Doing What She Likes"
Blake is the king of sweet songs, and this one is no different! I love it.
Using: My personalized Hunter Boot notepad
Y'all have been asking where my Hunter Boot notepad is from, and it's from A Note From Bees. I reviewed my notepad a while back, but if you haven't checked out this shop, it's a must! (The black is my name, but I had to blur it out for the blog!)

Wanting: Moon and Lola Tortoise Bangle
Y'all know I love tortoise and monograms, so this bangle from Moon and Lola is perfect!

Have a fabulous day, y'all!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day, y'all! If you're single like me, you can still take advantage of all the pink that this day has to offer. Here are some fun ways you can indulge:
Enjoy a Krispy Kreme Valentine's Day doughnut.
Indulge in a pink or red manicure.
Get a Valentine's cup at Starbucks.

Have a night out with your best friends.
Treat yourself to something you've been wanting.
Buy some flowers for yourself.
What are your plans for today? Have a terrific, pink-filled Valentine's Day!

How to: Organize a small space

I think I've told y'all this before, but I'm living in the sorority house and my room is SO tiny. I have a single, which is nice, but it's still challenging making use of the space. Since I now consider myself somewhat of an expert on making the best of a tiny space, here are some of my tips for organizing your small space (especially a dorm room):
 1. Narrow down belongings.
I know this seems obvious, but you'd be suprised at how easily a small space can be overwhelmed by too much clutter. Narrowing down the amount of "stuff" I brought was probably the hardest part of organizing my small space haha. This is the list of items I was taking back to school after winter break. I try to limit myself to a certain number of tubs or suitcases, and if all of my stuff doesn't fit, I have to narrow it down.
2. Make storage containers and tubs your best friends.
I keep all of my extra toiletry items (contacts, Band Aids, extra body wash, etc.) in this container on a shelf in my closet. This large Lilly storage box is perfect for holding my snacks, cups, etc. in my room. I keep it on the floor by my desk. The storage boxes come in 2 different sizes (medium and large) and are perfect for food, because they wipe down really easily.
3. Invest in a shoe organizer.
You'd be surprised at what a difference a shoe organizer makes. I can't handle the junky look of my closet when my shoes are just sitting at the bottom of my closet. I have an organizer like this one from Target, but it's black and white. I've used mine since freshman year, and it's always been perfect to hang over the back of my closet.
4. Organize your jewelry.
I usually keep all of my jewelry in a jewelry tray, and it's always a messy nightmare. Over Christmas break, I switched to this organizer and love it! It makes me wear pieces I normally wouldn't choose, since I can see everything. I found it at Marshall's for $9.99.
5. Only keep the "necessary" items out.
I try to only keep necessary items out in my room and put the rest away in my closet and/or containers. I keep this Nico and LaLa tray out on my desk with my makeup brushes, makeup, a small jewelry box for my every day jewelry, and my every day hair items.
6. Take advantage of storage under your bed.
I keep a few tubs under my bed, plus a mini dresser, and a little ottoman with old notes/school supplies. In a small space, you have to take advantage of every storage opportunity!
Also, small spaces can look messy easily, so I try to clean a little each day. Keeping the space clutter-free and clean makes it look even more organized! What are your small space organization tips? Have a fabulous day!

I love clutches. Something about them is so elegant--I think it's that they remind me of fancy nights out on the town. I can't wait to start using them more once I'm out of college (cross body bags are much more practical for nights out), but until then, I'll just swoon over some of my favorites.
I have the cutest black clutch with a pink monogram that I received from the company about a year ago. The owner, Winn, will work with you to make any clutch you want. She has lots of pretty prints and colors.
Love these clutches! How classic is this one? It would be fab with a monogram!
I love their All in One Bag. I don't own one, but I have a little pouch from them that I love.
How beautiful is this gold clutch?! I've heard wonderful things about these handmade leather clutches.
This Reva clutch is so classic, and I love that it can be used as a crossbody, as well. Maybe I'll slurge when it goes on sale.
Do you ever use a clutch? Where did you get your favorite? Have a wonderful day!
