Memorial Day

I often take for granted all of the freedoms I have as an American, but we must never forget how lucky we are to live in this great country. Please say an extra prayer today for all of the men and women who have fought or are currently fighting to keep this nation great--we owe them to much! God bless America!

P.S. Every time I try to comment on a blog, I get signed out of my account, so I completely ignored my blog last week after getting so frustrated. I'm trying to fix the problem, but can't figure it out. Any suggestions? Hopefully I'll be back to regular posting tomorrow!

Put a Bow on It

Like most of y'all, I love headbands! My favorite, of course, are ones with bows, but I love basically all headbands! I've always been a bit obsessed with headbands, but I became even more obsessed after watching Gossip Girl and developing a slight crush on Blair Waldorf. I still drool over her headbands from Seasons 1&2!

One of my fashion idols!

I buy a lot of my headbands and bows at craft shows, but I find some fabulous ones at stores, especially Forever 21. Here are some of my favorites that channel the fabulous Blair Waldorf:

Forever 21

Blooming Bows

Kate Spade

Forever 21

Juicy Couture

Do you love headbands as much as me? Where's your favorite place to find them? Have a great day!

Be our guest, be our guest!

One thing my parents always emphasized as I was growing up were proper table manners. I learned to properly set a table when I was in middle school, and my parents made me practice all of the time until I learned it by heart! One of the best diagrams I've ever seen was in Miss Manner's book of etiquette, which is my go-to book for all etiquette.

A formal table setting diagram

Another thing to keep in mind when dining out or at another person's home is using proper table manners. Some manners that are important to keep in mind are :

  1. It's always polite to bring the host/hostess a small gift to show your appreciation. Some great gifts would be a bottle of wine, a monogrammed candle, a cute wine stopper, a cheeseball with a fun spreader. Check out Pottery Barn for some great ideas, they have a whole section devoted to hostess gifts!

  2. NEVER speak with your mouth full, and always chew quietly--no slurping!

  3. Sit up straight.

  4. Once seated, place the napkin on your lap.

  5. When eating out, never order a meal more expensive than the person paying for the meal.

  6. Take small bites and eat at a leisurely pace.

  7. Always say please and thank you.

  8. Never reach across the table, rather politely ask the person closest to the food you want to pass it.

  9. Always excuse yourself before leaving the table.

  10. Compliment the cook.

  11. Always thank the host or hostess for their hospitality before leaving, and it's always nice to send them a thank you note!

Sometimes it's hard to remember all of the proper table etiquette, but having proper table manners always makes a great impression! Hope you have a wonderful day!

Summer Beauty Essentials

Summer Beauty Essentials

Summer Beauty Essentials by Miss Southern Prep featuring ralph lauren sunglasses

~Wired--I straighten my hair almost every schoolday during the fall winter, and about half of the week during the spring, so during the summer I give my wavy hair a break and embrace the curls. I think it's important to give your hair a straightening break, because with the sun and chlorine, hair becomes even more dry during the summer. I LOVE Wired for my curly hair--it's not as expensive as some products, has a wonderful smell, and lasts all day!

~Neutrogena Sunscreen--Sunscreen is a MUST! I always wear at least 40 SPF, but usually 70!

~Burt's Bees Lip Balm--I love Burt's Bees, and this lip balm is great and adds a bit of color to your lips!

~Oversized Sunglasses--I don't want to have to Botox by 30, so I always wear oversized sunglasses to protect my eyes!

~Bobbi Brown Waterproof Mascara--I could never leave the house without makeup, but I tone it down and keep my makeup more simple during the summer. I love this waterproof mascara, because it doesn't come off in the pool, but it's simple and makes my lashes look great!

~Neutrogena Body Scrub--Sometimes sunscreen mixed with working out, and the stickiness of the summer makes me get a few breakouts on my shoulders and back, but since using this, I have almost no breakouts, ever!

~Nail Polish--I'm partial to OPI, but no matter what your preference, I think it's important to always have your nails and toes painted in a fun, summery color!

~Proactiv Refining Mask--Sometimes my pores get clogged from the sunscreen, so as soon as I see a blemish pop up, I put a little dab on this overnight, and it's so much better in the morning.

~Water--I always have a Tervis Tumbler filled with water, because I think it's so important to stay hydrated during the summer heat! It also helps skin stay refreshed and hydrated!

~John Frieda Go Blonder Spray--I use to use Sun-In, but I think this is much gentler on my hair and works better!

~Neutrogena Natural Glow--I love the way this lotion gives me a glow that doesn't look fake or orange.

What other summer essentials do you love? Have a fabulous Friday!

LND (Little Navy Dress)

I'm sure all of y'all have heard of a LBD (Little Black Dress), but have you ever thought of having a LND, a little navy dress? I wear a ton of navy and often find myself wearing more LNDs than LBDs. I love navy as an alternative to black, because it's a neutral color, so other bright colors and fun jewelry can be paired with it, but it's a bit more exciting than basic black. Here are some dresses that prove that a LND can be just as fabulous as a LBD:

J. Crew

J. Crew

Brooks Brothers

J. Crew

What do you think of having a LND? Have a terrific Tuesday!
