I've been really into tunics lately--they're perfect to wear as pool coverups, but they also look cute and casual for running errands. I'm always looking for some adorable, yet affordable options. Here are some that have been on my radar:

On sale for $29!

Do you love tunics? Where do you find affordable options? Happy Friday!

Random Musings of Miss Southern Prep

I feel like my brain is a little all-over the place today, so sorry that this post is a little jumbled.

I really want an upholstered headboard. I've been looking at different tutorials, and I think my dad is going to make me one for wherever I move! I'm waiting to hear back from a few jobs, so I'm going to hold off until I figure out where I'm living.

I love Twine and Twig! Their necklaces are so cute.

I'm a huge fan of Heather Dubrow, but I'm not loving her on Orange County this season. She's gotten into a lot of petty (and unnecessary) arguments with Shannon, plus it always seems like she's trying to look down on her castmates.

Honestly, I'm not in love with any of the new Lilly agendas. I like the Jellies Be Jammin and the Orange Grove Monkeys, but I want to see if Lilly will do leather agendas again this year. But it's annoying that the planners are 17 months, yet the company releases a new one every year. I always feel like I'm wasting money when I buy the new one.

This maxi is the perfect summer maxi, in my opinion. Plus, it comes in three colors, and is on sale for  less than $40 at Nordstrom.

Happy Thursday!

Camera Help!

I'm thinking about investing in a new camera soon, so I need y'alls help! I want a nice camera, but nothing too fancy or too expensive. I don't want to spend more than $500, but if it's a little more, that's fine. What camera do y'all recommend?
Thanks for the help!

Reading Reviews

Today, I thought I'd share my reviews of a few books I've read recently.
I'm a huge fan of Emily Giffin, so of course I bought The One and Only the day it came out. I love her writing style, and I always feel like I connect with the characters in her books. This novel wasn't my favorite of hers, but it was really good! I didn't put it down for two days until I finished it!
I just finished The Fault in Our Stars, and to be honest, I was a bit let down. I had such high expectations and sadly they were not met. I know most people probably don't agree with me, but I just wasn't a fan. Although I didn't love it, I'm glad I read it and will probably see the movie when it comes out.
Turner Publishing graciously sent me a copy of Lilly: Palm Beach, Tropical Glamour, and the Birth of a Fashion Legend. It was a quick, fun read. I loved learning about Lilly and her background. I would recommend this to any Lilly lover!
Have y'all read any good books lately? Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Mariposa Love

I know I've told y'all that I've been really into interior design lately, even though I don't have my own place yet. One company I've always loved is Mariposa, even more now that I want to start collecting items for my own place! My favorite is the pearl collection, and I've been working on collecting some of the pieces. Here are some products I love from them:
I received this little catch-all for graduation.
Do you love Mariposa? Have a fabulous day!

Review: Barrington Gifts Tote + What's in my tote

I was recently sent the most perfect summer tote by Barrington Gifts. I chose the St. Anne tote in a blue and white striped pattern. I'm sure y'all remember the photo from last week's post:

I love that I could get my initials put on it!

Here's a view of the whole bag:

Inside, it's huge, with a zippered size compartment and side pockets.

And just to show y'all, this is everything I keep in my tote on a daily basis:

And there's room to spare! Here's a full view of everything I keep inside the bag (pictured on my new Lilly tray):

{1: Koozies; 2: Lilly notepad+Sharpie pen; 3: Sunglasses w/croakies; 4: Minimergency kit; 5: Hayden Reis bag filled with essentials (see them here); 6: Kate Spade wallet (old, but similar sold here)}
And here are some other favorites from Barrington Gifts that I've been loving:
I love their gameday section. It allows you to customize your own bag with your school colors, then you can make it any pattern you want! I'm loving these USC bags!

This money clip is the perfect Father's Day gift!

What's your favorite item from Barrington Gifts? Have a great day!

Miss Southern Prep Cooks

If you knew me in real life, you'd know that my cooking adventures (or lack thereof) are almost comical. I'm infamous among family members for messing up family recipes and corn pudding one Thanksgiving. Luckily, I never had to cook in college (thank you, sorority house chef), but now that I'm about to embark into the real world, I offered to help my mom make a summer salad for a family friend's party. It's super simple, so I thought I'd share the recipe with y'all! You can adjust the couscous depending on how many you're feeding, but we made more since it was for a party.
2 packs of couscous
1 can of kidney beans (drained and rinsed)
2 avocados (sliced)
4-6 scallions (sliced)
3 tablespoons lime juice
1 container feta cheese
1. Cook the couscous and let it cool for 20-30 minutes.
2. Add kidney beans, sliced avocados, scallions, and lime juice.
3. Mix gently, then add feta.
4. Let salad chill.
5. Serve and enjoy!
What yummy summer salads have you made lately? Have a wonderful day!

Small Doses of Happiness

These are a few (small) things that make me happy:
Something about this pillow makes me so happy. Every time I look at it, it makes me think of one of my favorite cities and my dream of living there.
Peonies and Hydrangeas
I love fresh flowers and these two are my favorite.
Anything pink makes me happy.
Sometimes I forget what a treat this is, but I always look forward to my daily Starbucks drink.
Handwritten Notes
I love writing and receiving thank you notes. I love that the person writing the note took time out of his/her day to thank me for a gift.
I love wine nights with my bffs, a glass of wine after a long day, or a few glasses after a really bad day haha!
What's on your happiness list? Have a fabulous Friday!

Thursday, May 15, 2014

I'm a big believer in setting goals for myself. As a type-A person, goals really drive me and help me accomplish my goals. I always set some small ones throughout the day (like finish my PR paper, return 3 emails, etc.), but I also set bigger ones (graduate with honors, get an A in my hardest major class, write a novel, etc). Thinking about the next couple of months and year ahead, so many new things will be happening for me. I graduated, am job hunting, and saving to move to my dream city. I wanted to set some long-term goals for myself, in addition to some things I want to do. Some of these are fun, while others are more serious, like sticking to a budget. Here's my list, which will begin mid-May and will end the following June.
Take a wine & painting class
Follow a savings plan and stick to my monthly budget
Visit Savannah
Invest in a pair of DY earrings
Join the Junior League
Buy 3 big girl pieces of furniture
Do 5 Pinterest DIYs
Find a big-girl job
Start making Charleston moving plans by Dec. 2015
Read Gone With the Wind
Take the GRE
What are some of your goals for the year ahead? Have a great day, y'all!
