Life Lately

I am so sorry that I've been a little absent lately. I finally started my summer job, and I've been super-busy juggling that, time with friends, working out, and spending time with my parents! I promise I'm going to catch-up on y'alls blogs this weekend though, and announce the winner of my Stylin' Stix monogrammed tray giveaway!

Anyway, I thought I'd show you my life lately, through the eyes of my phone:

Swimming and laying out at the pool (with a Starbucks in hand, of course!).

My new phone monogram

I saw these pink shovels outside of the grocery store the other day, and I was obsessed! How cute are they?!

Cooling off by getting frozen yogurt with the kids I babysit--this is one of the kid's cups. I just had to take a pic, because as I'm sure you can imagine, the kids were on a huge sugar-high after this!

I've been obsessed with this wrap at the pool--roasted turkey, cheese, honey mustard, lettuce, tomatoes, and avocado--SO yummy!
In Tuesday's post, I saw that a lot of y'all asked me about the book I was reading, Bitter is the New Black

I actually won this book in a giveaway last summer, but never got around to reading it. The main character, Jen, is an exec at a communications company, making a six-figure salary and living with her boyfriend in a gorgeous penthouse apartment in Chicago. Right after 9/11, the market crashes a bit, and both Jen and her boyfriend find themselves jobless. This book is about her journey from living a plush life in the city to figuring out how to pay her electric bill in a small apartment in a terrible part of town. .

Honestly, I really wanted to like this book. The main character is witty and funny, but sometimes, she is just mean and extremely narcissistic. I felt like I just couldn't connect with her, at all, and the only parts I enjoyed were when she was describing her very fashionable ensembles (think David Yurman, Prada, Ralph Lauren, and Kate Spade). It wasn't the worst book I've ever read, but I don't think I'd recommend it.

The other day, I started American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld, the author of Prep, and I'm loving it! It's a novel based on the life of Laura Bush, and I just think it's so interesting. However, it's not very flattering of Charlie Blackwell, the husband of the main character, who's based on George W. Bush. I'll do a full review next week, though!

Hope all is well with my wonderful readers! Do y'all have any exciting plans this weekend? Hope you have a fabulous Friday, and don't forget to enter my giveaway!

  1. I have/had this book! I remember picking it up somewhere and have to go search my parent's house for it next time I'm there. Let me know your thoughts at the end! xoxo

  2. Thanks on the good reads advice! I just finished up 50 shades of Grey and I wasn't crazy about-it was just average in my opinion!

  3. I read 'American Wife' a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it, although I thought the ending was very abrupt. I've also been reading 'Bitter is the New Black' and like you, I found it funny but I'm having a hard time getting into it. You're right, I do think that the author was rather mean in places in the book, but at least she owns and acknowledges her bad behavior.

  4. Your phone monogram is adorable. I'll have to pick up American Wife it sounds interesting.

  5. Where did you get your phone monogram?

  6. American Wife is one of those books that I keep meaning to read, but never really get around too..hopefully I can find time this summer because it sounds like an interesting read!

  12. Loved your pictures! That monogram on your phone is too cute!

  13. American Wife is one of my favorite books. I just loved it!

I actually really enjoyed Jen Lancaster's books (I think they are memoirs about her own life actually). I think I read the first three and then I took a break because she can be a bit much. Apparently she has also now written a fictional book that is basically Bitter is the New Black (but changing a few details). I haven't read it though

Thanks for the sweet comments, y'all!
